German logistics companies visit Schenker Arkas and Marport

A group of 50 representatives from the leading German freight forwarding and logistics companies visited Istanbul on April 18-19 in order to learn more about logistics facilities in Turkey. Their visit was organized by the German Freight Forwarder and Logistics Association (DLSV) and sponsored by Oscar Schunck Insurance and Vekehrs Rundschau magazine. Michael Kubenz, Chairman of the Board of Directors at DLSV, was part of the group, which visited many logistics facilities including Marport and the Schenker Arkas Samandıra Facilities in Istanbul. During their visit to the Samandıra Facilities, the group was welcomed by Erik Leiss, Schenker Arkas Chief Executive Officer , while Richard Zander, Key Accounts Manager , and Alper Dinsel, Logistics Services Manager , put on a presentation about Turkey's logistics infrastructure and Schenker Arkas' operations. After the presentation, the group was informed about the implementation of supply chain methods as they inspected the facility. Marport was also one of the stops in Istanbul for the German freight forwarder and logistics representatives. They were given technical information about the port and were informed that the port handled 28 percent of Turkey’s total container volume in 2007. While touring of the Marport terminals, the German logistics representatives stated that they were impressed by Marport’s investments.
