In Turkey, as in the rest of the world, growing
emphasis is being given to the environment and
health issues. As the number of such projects
increases by the day, projects are also finding
support with a variety of institutional and corporate
organizations. In this context, the European Investment
Bank granted Arkas Transport an ‘industrial pollution
control’ credit through the Turkish Industrial
Development Bank (TSKB) to finance the acquisition
for its fleet of environmentally friendly tractors.
The use of Euro 3 engines, a characteristic of
the tractors in Arkas Transport’s fleet, has been
mandatory in Europe since new legislation was
introduced in 2000. The engines reduce the amount
of pollutant emissions, such as carbon monoxide,
non-combustible hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides,
in vehicle exhaust fumes. The credit obtained
from the European Investment Bank was used to
finance the latest purchase of tractors and semi-trailers.
There are currently 312 tractors in the Arkas
Transport fleet. |
