Lloyd’s List, the world’s most prestigious newspaper the global shipping and transportation sector, organized for the first time in Turkey a well-attended Shipping Awards ceremony on April 25, 2007. Individuals and institutions were presented their awards in a ceremony held at the Çırağan Palace Kempinski Hotel where Marport was given the “Terminal of the Year" award.
Service to 9000 vessels
Turkey’s largest private container terminal, Marport has served over 9000 vessels since it was established in 1996 and handled its 5 millionth TEU a couple of months ago. Due to the investments made to increase capacity in the last 10 years, Marport has achieved incredible success and in 2006 had a growth rate of 22%. With a draft of 14.5 meters, Marport is Turkey’s only deep water terminal and can service post-panamax vessels. With a total area of 409,000 m² and storage capacity for 25,000 TEU, Marport employs 4 SSG, 25 RTG and 13 mobile cranes. Marport handles 25 percent of Turkey annual container traffic and has witnessed 350 million dollars worth of investment since 2001. The NAVIS terminal operating system and the technical features of the cranes employed at the port played a significant role in Marport’s selection for the award. The Marport success story has been reaffirmed with the “Terminal of the Year” award presented by Lloyd’s List.

These events are characterized as the Oscar of the shipping industry and have been held in England, Greece, Australia and India, as well as in countries of the Middle and Far East.
