The German Peene-Werft shipyard delivers Bernard A., the 27th vessel of the Turkish private fleet

The containership number 27 of the articulated fleet of Lucien Arkas comes also from Germany. The mighty Turkish shipping entrepreneur has taken delivery of the Bernard A., bearing the name of his son - who was also present at the handover ceremony along with his sister Diane - from the most loyal builder of the last ten years, the Peene-Werft based in Wolgast, which has produced as many as 16 units for its client. With a capacity intake of 1,604 TEUs, thus increasing the total fleet capacity to 32,227 TEUs, this newbuilding - like the others, flying the Turkish flag – has already set sail for her maiden voyage to West Africa.
In his speech at the ceremony the Chairman of  Arkas Holding pointed out that the development plan of the group has been immune from the general crisis, fully respecting the agenda outlined in 2009. "I came this yard for the first time 10 years ago and still remain satisfied with the quality of workmanship and for the characteristics of the vessels delivered to date. Let me emphasize that all our vessels are currently operating without any being laid off, and that our shipowning company EMES - which operates regularly scheduled services in the Mediterranean and Black Sea - has increased its routes by entering new markets. We can provide container transportation as far as to the Canary Islands and that there are only 2-3 countries left in the Mediterranean that we do not serve”. With 12 foreign offices located between Spain and Egypt, Italy and Algeria, Russia and Ukraine, Arkas is linked as partner or shipagent with nine international shipping companies: MSC, Hapag Lloyd, Yang Ming Line , Hanjin Shipping, Grimaldi Lines, Tarros International, ACL, DAL, Multiveda.
The managing director of the German shipyard, Siegfried Crede, stressed his "appreciation for the great cooperation between the Arkas Group and the Hegemann Group, the holding company owning our yard. In our ten-year relationship we have worked together in total harmony. I am very proud of this latest ceremony and I hope that our win-win cooperation can go further on in the near future. At a time when many yards have had a difficult time due to cancellation of orders, we are grateful to Arkas for having been able continue to work thanks to the orders received".
Over more than 50 years of activity, Peene-Werft GmbH - site of a former DDR shipyard before its  privatization in 1992 brought it in the hands of entrepreneur Detlef Hegemann - has built more than 650 new ships, including 257 military units, and today has 880 employees.

Arkas’ın gemilerini inşa ettirdiği Alman Peene-Werft tersanesi, Türk armatörün 27. konteyner gemisi olan Bernard A’nın inşasını tamamladı. 

Lucien Arkas’ın geniş filosunun 27. konteyner gemisini yine Almanya’dan teslim aldı. Türk armatör, kızı Diane ve oğlu Bernard’ın da hazır bulunduğu teslim töreninde, oğlunun adını taşıyan Bernard A gemisini,  son on yıldır gemilerini yaptırdığı ve şu ana kadar kendisine tam 16 gemi inşa etmiş olan Peene-Werft tersanesinden teslim aldı. Batı Afrika’ya yapacağı ilk yolculuğu için yola çıkan ve diğer Arkas gemileri gibi Türk bayrağı taşıyan 1.604 TEU’luk bu geminin katılması ile Türk bayraklı gemi filosunun toplam kapasitesi 32.227 TEU’ya yükseldi. Teslim töreninde görüşlerini belirten Lucien Arkas, “Bu tersaneye ilk olarak 10 yıl önce geldim. O günden bu yana, teslim aldığım gemilerdeki işçiliğin kalitesinden ve gemilerin özelliklerinden hep memnun kaldım. Filomuzdaki gemilerin birçoğu Akdeniz ve Karadeniz’de düzenli hat taşımacılığı yapan şirketimiz EMES tarafından kullanılıyor. Akdeniz'de gemilerin çalıştığı rotaları çoğalttık ve yeni pazarlara da gidiyoruz. Artık Kanarya adalarına kadar ulaşıyoruz, henüz hizmet vermediğimiz sadece 2- 3 Akdeniz ülkesi bulunuyor."dedi.

İspanya’dan Mısır’a, İtalya’dan Cezayir’e, Rusya’dan Ukrayna’ya kadar toplam 12 ülkede ofisleri olan Arkas, 9 uluslararası armatör ile işbirliği veya acentelik ilişkilerini de sürdürmektedir: MSC, Hapag Lloyd, Yang Ming Line, Hanjin Shipping, Grimaldi Lines, Tarros International, ACL, DAL, Multiveda.  Wolgast’taki Tersanenin Müdürü Siegfried Crede, Arkas Grubu ile tersanenin sahibi olan Hegemann Grubu arasında oluşturulan işbirliğinden duyduğu memnuniyeti ifade etti. “On yıllık işbirliğimiz süresince tam uyum içerisinde çalıştık. 16.ıncı gemi teslim törenini yapıyor olmamızdan büyük gurur duyuyorum ve işbirliğimizin yakın gelecekte yeniden devam etmesini diliyorum. Siparişlerin iptalinden dolayı birçok tersanenin zor zamanlar geçirdiği bir dönemde, çalışmaya devam etmemizi mümkün kılan siparişlerinden dolayı Arkas’a minnettarız.”dedi.

50 yıllık geçmişi olan ve 1992 yılında özelleştirilmesinden bu yana girişimci Detlef Hegemann’ın sahibi olduğu gruba ait olan eski Doğu Alman tersanesi Peene-Werft GmbH, bugüne kadar 257’si askeri olmak üzere 650’den fazla gemi inşa etmiş olup, günümüzde 880 kişi istihdam etmektedir.
