Autoport enlarges the specialty of the house

The terminal operator of the Arkas Group makes successful business with automotive traffic and general cargo as well 

Not only cars are passing through Autoport Terminal Operators S.A., the first and currently the only purpose built car terminal investment in Turkey which has a 400.000 CEU annual vehicle handling capacity on two berths. Strategically located at the intersection point of manufacturers’ and distributors’ plants and yards just in the middle of the automotive sector in the Eastern and Southern Marmara Sea, the terminal provides service for all makes of cars that are imported or exported; its design eliminates the risks and restrictions existing at conventional ports that are caused by carrying out different handling services together at the same site.

Autoport Automobile Terminal was established on a 160,000 sq.m. yard capacity in Yeniköy – Kocaeli to provide valuable contribution on Turkey’s economy besides proving important needs of exponentially growing automotive sector, worth over 1 million unit per year in 2007. “Our priority tasks and targets are to comply with International Quality Standards while providing superior, cost effective terminal services and to increase and add value on finished vehicle logistics with the expertise of Arkas Port Services” explains Ozgur Kalelioglu, in charge of all seaport terminals as the Director of Arkas Port Services Group, working directly with the Group’s owner Lucien Arkas and all related management.

The facility was actually put into service by August 2008 when the Singaporean vessel Toba of Wallenius Wihlelmesen as first called the terminal, thus unloading 147 automobiles and 119 units of construction equipment as well as spare parts (Ship2Shore n. 36/2008). Little earlier the same year Mitsui & Co. had acquired a 29%  stake in Autoport Terminal Operators S.A., but in 2009 Arkas bought it back the stock from the Japanese trading firm. Since the past year has been of great sufferance for all operators involved in the automotive sector worlwide, nevertheless Autoport has had the ability to partly re-invent its skills and scope. “Currently we are serving 75.000 tons general cargo monthly, this involves both in and outbound general cargo (wood pulp, gypsum boards, pipe etc.) for companies such as Knauf, Ipek Kagit, Erciyas Boru. In our current approach we target 'cleaner' general cargo in order to reserve to terminal in its current shape, therefore avoid residue involved cargo such as coal, and scrap metal”. This current activity of course does not make any prejudice to the business the facility was actually designed for originally. “Our service regions are multipurpose rolling cargo services as well as finished vehicle logistics, although, in the slower times as such we are utilizing the terminal for general cargo operations” Kalelioglu continues. “We are also involved in discussions with the major OEMs in Turkey for the in and outbound traffic of their units; however, currently the focus of the sector is very much on domestic sales due to subsidies on VAT that the government is using to boost the local market.  Our target is to handle 20% of the car traffic in and out of Turkey. We expect to have Turkish manufacturers recover and production reach up to 2.000.000 units of which 75% export and 25% import in best case scenario by 2015”. With the ability to handle up to 400,000 automobiles per year thanks to a 6,000 CEU parking slot, the terminal has two piers of 328 meters for a of 656 meters in total, which can handle two vessels at the same time. In order to ensure maximum efficiency for terminal traffic, the entry and exit of auto transport trailers is specially regulated via two separate gates.  Loading and unloading is conducted in an area capable of holding 16 semi-trailers, 7 of which are in  the front with an additional 9 in the back. The yard equipment is made of 1 mobile crane with capacity of 100 tons, 1 Ro-Ro tractor, 1 forklift and 2 trailers. The terminal is managed on the premises from the Admin Building. Employee numbers do vary depending on the characteristic of the cargo, generally speaking around 50 employees are servicing the terminal, including third party service providers. Autoport doesn't operate a warehouse in the terminal. By means of software and hardware “i-tracks ” designed especially for Autoport the terminal is able to provide data in all up-to-date EDI formats related to yard stock, vessel operations and all other data that may be required by the clients and manufacturers in the supply chain. Vehnet software system i-tracks custom designed for the terminal's needs and workflow provides information about  operational processes and the current status of the vehicles.  With the Electronic Data Interchange performed by the terminal automation system, clients and business partners have access to uninterrupted, real-time information 24/7. The port area is monitored by state-of-the-art CCTV and security systems that meet standards required by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS).  Angelo Scorza 

Autoport hizmetlerini genişletiyor  

Arkas Grubu’nun liman işletmeciliği şirketi, araç taşıma trafiği dışında genel yük trafiğine yönelik başarlı bir performas ortaya koyuyor. 

Türkiye’nin ilk ve yalnızca bu amaca özel olarak inşa edilmiş ve her iki iskelede yılda toplam 400.000 adet araç taşıma kapasitesine sahip araba terminali yatırımı olan Autoport Liman İşletmesi’nde sadece araçlar taşınmıyor.  

Stratejik olarak Doğu ve Güney Marmara Denizi’ndeki otomotiv endüstrisinin tam ortasında, üreticilerin ve distribütörlerin tesis ve istasyonlarının kesişme noktasında yer alan terminal her markadaki ithal ve ihraç araçlar için zengin çeşitlilikte hizmetler de sunuyor. Terminalin özel tasarımı, klasik limanlarda görülen, değişik taşımacılık hizmetlerinin aynı noktada gerçekleştirilmesinden kaynaklanan risk ve sınırlamaları ortadan kaldırıyor.

Autoport Otomobil Terminali, hızla büyüyen yıllık üretimin 1 milyon adedin üzerinde gerçekleştiği otomotiv sektörünün önemli ihtiyaçlarına yanıt vermek ve Türkiye ekonomisine değerli katkılarda bulunmak üzere 2007 yılında 160.000 metre karelik bir alan üzerine Yeniköy-Kocaeli’de kuruldu. “Öncelikli görevlerimiz ve hedeflerimiz üst düzey ve tasarrufu öne çıkaran terminal hizmetleri sunarken, Uluslararası Kalite Standartlarına uymak ve Arkas Liman Hizmetleri’nin uzmanlığından yararlanarak hazır araç lojistiğinde katma değer yaratmak” diyor, tüm deniz liman terminallerinden sorumlu olan Arkas Liman Hizmetleri Grup Direktörü Özgür Kalelioğlu, (holdingin sahibi Lucien Arkas ve tüm ilgili yönetim birimleri ile doğrudan çalışıyor.) Tesis, Singapur gemisi Toba of Wallenius Wihlelmesen’in terminale ilk kez uğrayarak 147 otomobil ve 119 inşaat makinesi ve yedek parçası indirmesiyle 2008 Ağustos ayında fiili olarak faaliyete geçti (Ship2Shore, sayı 36/2008). Aynı yıl içinde Mitsui & Co, Autoport Terminal İşletmeleri A.Ş.’nin %29’luk hissesini almıştı ancak, Arkas, 2009 yılında Japon firmasından bu hisseleri geri satın aldı. Geçtiğimiz yıldan bu yana dünya genelindeki otomotiv sektöründe yer alan tüm terminal işletmeleri ciddi ekonomik zorluklar yaşasalar da, Autoport, hizmet kapsamını genişletebilmeyi başardı. “Şu anda ayda 75.000 ton genel amaçlı kargo hizmeti veriyoruz, bu miktar içerisinde Knauf, İpek Kağıt, Erciyas Boru gibi şirketlere yönelik limana giren ve limandan çıkan genel amaçlı yükler (kağıt hamuru, alçı panel, boru vb.) yer alıyor. Şimdiki hedefimiz, terminalin mevcut durumunu ve performansını muhafaza etmek amacıyla “daha temiz” yüklere odaklanarak kömür ve hurda metal gibi atık madde bırakan yüklerden kaçınmak”. Terminalin şu anki faaliyeti elbette tesisin ilk başta amaçlanan hizmetini sekteye uğratmıyor. “Her ne kadar yoğun zamanlarda terminali genel kargo işlemleri için kullansak da hizmet sahalarımız çok amaçlı tekerlekli kargo hizmetleri ve bunun yanı sıra bitmiş araç lojistiğidir” diyor Sayın Kalelioğlu ve şöyle devam ediyor, “Ayrıca Türkiye’deki OEM’ler(Orijinal Parça Üreticileri) ile, ürünlerinin çift yönlü dağıtımını yapmak üzere görüşmeler yapıyoruz, ancak sektörün ana odağı, hükümetin yerel piyasayı canlandırmak için kullandığı KDV indirimlerinden ötürü ekseriyetle yurt içi satışlar üzerinde. Hedefimiz, Türkiye’ye giriş çıkış yapan araç trafiğinin %20’sinin sevkini sağlamak. 2015 yılına kadar Türk üreticilerinin toparlanmasını ve en iyi senaryoya göre üretimin %75’i ihracat ve %25’i ithalat olmak üzere 2.000.000 adede ulaşmasını bekliyoruz.” 6.000 araçlık park alanı sayesinde yılda sayısı 400,000’e ulaşan araba taşıma kapasitesine sahip olan terminal, her biri 328 metre olmak üzere toplamda 656 metrelik aynı anda iki geminin yanaşabildiği iki iskeleye sahip. Terminal trafiğinde maksimum verimi sağlamak için araç taşıyıcı römorkların giriş ve çıkışı özellikle ayrı kapılardan düzenleniyor. Yükleme ve boşaltma işlemleri, 7’si önde ekstra 9’u arkada olmak üzere 16 yarı römorku barındırabilme kapasitesine sahip bir alan içerisinde gerçekleştiriliyor. Alandaki makine parkı 1 adet 100 ton kapasiteli seyyar vinçten, 1 Ro-Ro çekiciden, 1 forkliften ve 2 römorktan oluşuyor. Terminal, İdare Binasından yerinde yönetiliyor. Çalışan sayısı yükün niteliğine göre değişmekle birlikte genel anlamda terminalde taşeron firmalar dahil 50 personel görev yapıyor. Autoport terminalde bir antrepo işletmemektedir.  Autoport için özel olarak tasarlanmış olan “i-tracks” yazılımı ve donanımı sayesinde terminal, stok alanına ve gemi operasyonlarına ilişkin verileri ve ayrıca tedarik zinciri içerisinde müşteriler ve üreticiler tarafından ihtiyaç duyulabilecek tüm diğer verileri en güncel EDI formatlarında sunabiliyor.  Terminalin ihtiyaçlarına ve iş akışına göre özel olarak tasarlanmş Vehnet yazılım sistemi olan i-tracks, operasyon süreçleri ve araçların mevcut durumu hakkında bilgi sağlıyor. Terminal otomasyon sistemi tarafından gerçekleştirilen Elektronik Veri alışverişi ile müşteriler ve iş ortakları 7 gün 24 saat kesintisiz eş zamanlı bilgilere ulaşabiliyor.   Liman sahası, Uluslararası Gemi ve Liman Tesis Güvenliği (ISPS) tarafından öngörülen standartlara uygun en gelişmiş kapalı devre televizyon sistemleri ve güvenlik sistemleri ile izleniyor.
