Arkas is a company that has been in existence since 1902 and currently operates in many different fields, including, agency services, ship operations, port operations, logistics services that integrate sea, land, rail and air transportation as main fields and bunkering, automotive, insurance services, information systems and tourism.
Arkas Holding currently has 60 offices, 14 in Turkey and 24 in other countries (Greece, Italy, Monaco,France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunis, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,China, Ghana and Nigeria). Arkas employs 6500 people in Turkey and outside of Turkey in 64 different companies.
Arkas is a partner (MSC, Hapag Lloyd, Yang Ming and Tarros SPA) or a representative (Hanjin Shipping, Grimaldi Lines, ACL, Marguisa Line, DAL, UAFL Ethopian Shipping) of 10 world-class companies in Turkey. Also represents shipping companies like Hamburg Süd, PIL CCNI, OOCL, UOL and BDP in foreign countries only. Arkas has also a partnership with DB Schenker, the leading overland and rail transporter in Europe, since 1995.
In addition to representing international shipping companies, Arkas has also been building a fleet of vessels since 1996, and its Merchant Marine Fleet currently boasts 46 vessels that make up Turkey’s largest container vessel fleet. The fleet also includes 6 bunker barges. Arkas Line, established with the purpose to be the first container shipping line in the private sector made up of vessels, currently provides scheduled service in the Mediterranean, Black Seas and West Africa with container vessels of the Arkas fleet. Arkas Line is ranked 22st in the world container fleet ownership according to Clarkson’s Research Company.
Arkas, has been one of the biggest contributors to Turkey’s foreign trade by being the leader of private port management. While providing services with Marport, the highest volume container- handling port in Turkey (annual 2 million TEU capacity) and Autoport, Turkey’s first car terminal (annual 350.000 vehicle capacity), Arkas acquired the partnership of Terminal del Golfo port to make use of its know-how in port sector abroad as well.
Arkas Logistics, established in 1989, currently provides sea, air, truck, rail, combined and special equipment shipping services as well as forwarding and warehouse services.
Since 1998, Arkasair has been offering VIP air transportation services in order to meet the ever-expanding transportation needs of businessmen who are traveling further distances. Arkasair is the first company in Turkey to obtain ISO 9001 certification for VIP passenger transportation and air taxi services with private airplanes, and has a fleet of two aircraft. Arkasair is able to reach many locations around the world, including Paris, Peking, Sydney, Cape Town, Moscow and Washington.
MSC Cruises is Europe’s largest cruise company and had been operating in Turkey since 2005 through a partnership with Arkas Holding.
